Malta's Iconic Azure Window Collapsed Into The Sea
Malta's iconic landmark 'Azure Window' has collapsed into the sea. Also known as Dwejra Window, it was a limestone natural arch measuring 28-metre-tall (92 ft) on the island of Gozo.
Azure Window was featured in many movies such as Clash of the Titans and The Count of Monte Cristo. It was also featured in one of Game of Thrones episode.
A study in 2013 said that while erosion was inevitable, the structure on the Maltese island of Gozo was not in imminent danger of collapsing. At the time, they said the structure would survive for few more decades.
Well, their study was obviously wrong. According to Malta locals, the cause of the collapse was due to a storm.
