Paula Deen has been in the news lately after admitting she used racial slur in a lawsuit deposition. She was fired by Food Network and has been dropped by her major sponsor, Smitfield Foods, just recently.
Does she deserve all these backlash?

How many years ago did she say this? Used to be you could get fired for what you said on your job. Now, apparently, you can get fired and burned at the stake for what admitted to saying in a time long ago. She admitted her mistake in a court of law. Then she apologized, several times for the offense. I hope everyone who had anything to do with firing her for her admission has been perfect all of their lives.

First of all, this happened 30 years ago.....let it go already. Secondly, we have all said things that are offensive to someone or another. This is not an every day word she uses, she is not a racist, she is a person, just like everyone of us. Why do some of us have to make this an issue? Let's leave Paula Deen alone!

Too much drama. Paula Deen has had a good run. This will hurt her employees more than her. Matt Lauer is a hypocrite. Anyone who watches the Today show is truly a low info voter. Part of success in this country is being on the receiving end of lawsuits. You either settle or take a risk you will be tried in the media.

People are way too sensitive these days. She apologized and lost her TV shows. People don't have to eat at her restaurants, either. All over one word that's perfectly fine for blacks to use. Leave her be.

I think people these days over-react too much. Paula Deen didn't deserve all these backlash.

@DevGuru1: I agree with you. And it happened in the past.

I have read numerous biographies of black entertainers who say they are embarrassed by how todays artists have brought their race 2 steps back for their use of the N word and hoe's etc. All races have a slang word to describe the worst of that race, whats the big deal, if the person who its directed to is a jerk, then so be it, if not and its just a racist comment, then I am all for her firing.

I don't get the controversy. There are people on Capitol Hill at this very moment who probably used the N word last week. But people want to skin Paula Deen alive for an honest admission. She's from the South. She's over 60. OF COURSE she fricking used the N word! Probably more than once. The majority of White 60+ year old Americans have as well. IS this a surprise to anybody???

Well, I gotta give her credit for not lying. Right now the Deens are just terrified that their million dollar endorsement business is crumbling down right in front of their faces. I think they should just say as little as possible. Within couple weeks nobody is gonna talk about it anymore.
